The wolves are out to get you. I know that sounds strange, but it’s true. If you are a believer, then the devil has assigned someone, perhaps a number of people, to seek you out and try to destroy you. That’s what the Bible is talking about in 1 John 4:1, when it says, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.” The Amplified Bible, Classic Edition says: “Beloved, do not put faith in every spirit, but prove (test) the spirits to discover whether they proceed from God; for many false prophets have gone forth into the world.” In both translations, that word false means “not genuine,” or “counterfeit.” As a believer, you must know there are counterfeits in your life, ravenous wolves disguised as innocent sheep who have attached themselves to you, not because they love you, but because they want to see you hurt or destroyed. They may be your co-workers or your classmates. They could be among your closest friends, or members of your family. They could even be someone who sits beside you in church every Sunday. The truth is they are counterfeit friends or associates, and they are on assignment from the devil to deceive and destroy you. It’s up to you to uncover them. How? Do what the Bible says in 1 Peter 5:8, The Message: “Stay alert. The Devil is poised to pounce, and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. Keep your guard up.” Just because someone calls you their friend, doesn’t make it true. Pray and ask God to help you recognize the truth from the lie, the real from the fake, the genuine from the counterfeit. Then watch and pray, and keep your eyes open. That way you won’t be deceived and taken advantage of.
