What’s controlling you? I asked that because it seems that so many people, believers included, are losing control of their lives. They’ve become so accustomed to following the dictates of the world through what they see and hear in the news and on social media, that they can’t think for themselves. They don’t realize that mentally, socially, and emotionally, their speech, thought processes and actions are a direct result of their environment—that those things can literally shape their lives and cause them to become products of their environment. Unless we, as believers, are willing to break free of those negative things, we can never live in or experience the good life God has for us. Galatians 5:1, English Standard Version, reminds us that “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free,” and encourages us to “stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” When you follow the dictates of the world—speaking, thinking, and acting in the same ungodly manner as the world—you are submitting to a life of slavery and bondage. But God’s desire is that you live the blessed life He has planned, purposed, and prepared for you—the life of abundance Jesus came to give all who would believe on Him. To do that, you must break free of the things that have held you back—those negative circumstances, situations, and even relationships that have hindered you from moving forward and receiving God’s best for you. Don’t allow negative things to draw you back into a place of bondage, where you feel bound and trapped and cannot live and express the unique personality God has given you. John 8:36, English Standard Version, says, “So if the Son sets you free, you are free through and through.” Break free and don’t allow yourself to be burdened down by the circumstances of life.
