Change. It’s the one thing that, at one time or another, will affect each of us. But for some reason, it’s also something that makes many people uncomfortable. When things change, people become resistant. Whatever they’re used to—the usual, the customary, the norm—that’s what they want. It may surprise you to know that, while God Himself does not change, He desires to see His children make changes for the good. In Romans 12:1-2, New Living Translation, the Apostle Paul wrote: “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” When it comes to His children, God doesn’t want us following after the world—thinking, talking, and looking like them and doing the same ungodly things they do. He wants us to project the image of our Creator. He made us to be like Him, and that’s how He wants us to live. That’s why He tells us in 2 Corinthians 6:17 to “…come out from among unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them” (New Living Translation). Change means to become different, to make a radical shift from one position to another. It means to give up one way of doing something and take on another. The Bible says in Ephesians 4:24 that when you are born again, you “put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.” The new man, that’s who you are in Christ Jesus, also has the mind of Christ. He doesn’t think, act, or talk like worldly people. That’s the image God wants you to embrace. To do that, you must be willing to submit to change. God always knows what’s best for His children. He welcomes the right in your life because He knows it will draw you closer to Him, and cause you to prosper and live victoriously.
