We’ve all been there. We see an “Entrance Only” sign at a store and, instead of obeying the directive, we use it as an exit. It’s human nature, right? But how does that work when it comes to our spiritual life? What happens when we ignore the signs that tell us the right way to go, and instead we choose what’s most convenient? How does taking the wrong path affect how we live for God? Proverbs 14:12 warns that “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death (English Standard Version). In The Message, that verse reads like this:  “There’s a way that looks harmless enough; look again—it leads straight to hell.” Every decision we make, including the doors we choose to walk through, can have serious consequences. When it comes to our spiritual lives, there’s only one door that leads to eternal life. In John 10:9, Amplified Bible, Classic Edition, Jesus told His disciples, “I am the Door; anyone who enters in through Me will be saved (will live). He will come in and he will go out [freely], and will find pasture.” The truth is, entering through the door that God provides offers us safety and protection. It promises us a long and prosperous life. But deciding to go where we’re not supposed to—to be associated with the wrong crowd or entertain ungodly activities—will eventually lead to spiritual ruin or even death. Just as warning signs are spread along the roadways for the safety of the motorists, God gives us signs to keep us moving in the right direction. When we decide to ignore those signs, to disobey the law just because it’s not convenient for us, we expose ourselves to possible danger. Your destiny has already been planned by your heavenly Father. Not only that, but He knows what you’re doing and where you’re headed all the time. If there’s danger in your path, He will always warn you in advance to keep you from walking head-on into it. He is your entrance to a blessed life. Make sure you always enter through the right door.
