It’s February, and for many, our thoughts are already focused on Valentines’ Day. It’s the one day each year when many go all out to express their love to those dearest to them. So, let me ask you: What kind of love do you have? Is it from God, or is it a superficial kind of human love that’s conditional; one that only wants to love what is lovable and will only love when you are loved? I know that may sound strange to some, but the truth is many have never experienced what the Bible refers to as the agape love of God, which is unconditional. They don’t know the kind of love that is not based on what someone does or doesn’t do. The Bible says God loved us first (1 John 4:19), even before we existed. And because He loved us, we ought to love Him, and one another. Because agape love comes from God, it enables us to do that supernaturally by the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5). Agape love helps us to turn away our negative feelings and emotions, and choose to allow God, through His Holy Spirit who dwells in us, to truly love others. It surpasses human love; which is always conditional.
