Most of us who drive have experienced the chime or bell that sounds when we’re running low on fuel. It’s a built-in function that enables the message center in our vehicles to warn us so we don’t run completely out of gas and become stranded. In the same way, God has placed a message center inside us through the Holy Spirit to alert us when our spiritual tanks are running low and need to be refilled. Just as we burn gasoline in our vehicles, we expend lots of energy, spiritual and natural, to deal with the daily affairs of life. We have responsibilities in many different areas, all requiring our attention. And for some of us, we give so much time and attention to those things that we neglect spending the proper time with God and His Word which we need to stay spiritually built up or filled. Before we know it, our spirits are running near empty. When that happens, the Holy Spirit sends us a signal or message that it’s time to stop, rest and refill—to get into the Word and allow our spirits to be refreshed and renewed. Matthew 5:6 says, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness for they shall be filled.” If that’s you today, then you should know the Lord also says in Psalm 81:10, “I am the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.” David declared in Psalm 103:5, New Living Translation, “He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!” Don’t ignore the warning signs from your spiritual message center—the Holy Spirit—when He alerts you that “It’s time to refill.” God wants to renew your spirit and fill your life with good things so you can be restored and stable, have joy, and overflow with abundance
