In Philippians 3:14, Amplified Bible, Classic Edition, the Apostle Paul told the people at Philippi, “I press on toward the goal to win the [supreme and heavenly] prize to which God in Christ Jesus is calling us upward.” In The Message, that verse says: “I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.” In other words, Paul was encouraging the people to keep climbing, keep trusting, keep reaching for the stars. Only problem with that, though, is that whether it’s a literal mountain, or a goal you have set for yourself, climbing can be rough. It takes a lot of energy, and depending on how far you have to go you can become weary and stressed. You wonder if you’re ever going to make it to the top. Paul wanted to encourage the people to not give up but to keep pressing. That message applies to us today as believers. He’s telling us, “Don’t stop now, you’re almost there. You’re going to make it.” When you became born again, you started on your journey with God on your side. God has never left you. By faith, and with the help of His Holy Spirit, you will make it to your goal. Begin to see yourself as a mountain climber. You’ve reached the halfway point. You’re right there in the middle. The time it would take for you to stop, turn around and go back down the mountain is probably the same amount of time it would take for you to keep climbing to reach the top. In 2 Corinthians 12:9, the Lord says, “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.” That means when you feel weak, you are actually strong because you have His strength to carry and help you. Don’t give up now. You’ve come too far to turn back. Let the devil know you’re not stopping now—that you’re not backing down. Show him you have Christ Jesus to strengthen you to scale the mountain and complete the climb.
