Some of you reading this will remember the pre-GPS navigation days, when getting from one destination to another required the use of a roadmap. But with today’s technology, all we have to do is enter an address (or speak it) and presto, our route is mapped out (including arrival time) and staring back at us on a video screen. Except for an occasional interruption, like bad weather, road construction, or stopping for gas, the voice-activated system will guide you turn-by-turn until you’ve finally reached your destination. It’s a perfect setup for driving. Unfortunately, everything about life doesn’t run by GPS navigation. Some of you have mapped out your plans for the future, and by faith you were certain you were headed in the right direction and on course to reach your goals. But somewhere along the way you had a setback. Something happened to distract you—to throw you off course, cause you to take a detour, or stop you from moving altogether. When that happens, it’s easy to become frustrated and want to give up hope of ever reaching your planned destination. That’s the kind of response the devil is hoping for from you. That’s his desire for every Christian: to keep him from receiving and enjoying God’s blessings. Don’t give in to the devil and what he wants. Instead, consider the possibility that God may have something to do with those sudden interruptions. Maybe you’re moving too fast, and He wants you to slow down and seek His direction. Perhaps the path you’ve chosen is not the right one, and He wants you to take a detour. Could it be that God has a better plan for you than the one you’ve chosen, and He’s trying to show you the right path? Apostle Paul said in Philippians 3:14, New Living Translation, “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Pressing forward is what God wants you to do, but He wants to make sure you press in the right direction. Proverbs 14:12 says, “There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.” Jesus said in John 10:10 that His purpose in coming was that we might have “a rich and satisfying life” (New Living Translation). When we trust the Lord to be our GPS system, when we allow Him to chart our course, He will lead, guide and direct us over, around or through all obstacles so we reach our destination victoriously.
