Who do you know that enters a competition wanting and expecting to lose? I don’t think you can name one person. The reason is that everybody should play to win. The Bible confirms that in 1 Corinthians 9:24, where it says, “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it” (English Standard Version). In The Passion, the last part of that verse says, “When you run, run for the prize!” The sad truth is that there are many who enter competitions expecting to lose. Sure, they would like to come in first, to hold up the trophy, receive the gold medal or the blue ribbon. But they realize the chances of that ever happening are slim. Even though they entered the competition, they are not confident that they have what it takes to win—that they probably didn’t put in the proper time training to win. Here’s what we all must understand: God created us, as believers, to be winners and not losers. In his letter to the Church at Rome, the Apostle Paul wrote: “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us” (Romans 8:37, New King James Version). The word conquer means “to gain, win, or obtain by effort.” Another definition is “to gain victory over.” As a believer, you must always see yourself as God sees you: victorious! We must all see ourselves as more than conquerors. You may be panicking right now, especially because of how the pandemic has changed our lives. You may even be wondering if your dreams and pursuits are worth your effort. The answer is yes. Continue running the race so you can receive the prize. Do what Hebrews 12:1, The Message, says: “…get on with it. Strip down, start running—and never quit.” God has given you everything you need to win. And with Him on your side, you can never, ever lose!
