As we learned from our devotion on Monday, the Bible speaks much about the importance of singing praises unto God. In the Old Testament, musicians and singers sometimes went ahead of the Israelite armies, and battles were won without a sword being drawn. The Book of Isaiah says the mountains and trees sing unto God. And you may recall reading in Acts 16:25-26, New Living Translation, where the scripture says, “Around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening. Suddenly, there was a massive earthquake, and the prison was shaken to its foundations. All the doors immediately flew open, and the chains of every prisoner fell off!” Songs are sung on numerous occasions and for a number of reasons. They’re sung at celebrations and ceremonies, to lift one’s spirits, and to release hurt and grief. Songs are also sung to express thanksgiving—especially to God for His loving kindness, goodness, and mercy. Do you have a song in your heart you would like to sing to God? If so, then sing it to let Him know just how much you love and appreciate Him and all He’s done for you. Ask God to put a song in your heart so you can sing of His love and His goodness!
