When God saw that Joshua was about to slip over into fear after the death of Moses, He instructed His servant to be “strong and courageous.” He told Joshua: “No one will be able to stand their ground against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you” (Joshua 1:5, New Living Translation). That’s what God is saying to you and me today. As long as we trust and obey Him, He will be with us. He will deliver us from the traps of the enemy and keep us from becoming fearful. When you think about it, there is really nothing to fear when it comes to the devil. Jesus has defeated him, so he has no power or authority except what you allow. In fact, the Bible says he is an imposter—walking around trying to appear as some big, bad lion (1 Peter 5:8). The truth is fear is perverted faith. It’s the opposite of faith. Just like faith activates God, fear always activates Satan. As long as you’re operating in faith, you can be confident that God will come through for you in every situation. But let just a little bit of fear slip in and it can all be over for you in the blink of an eye. Stay in faith, and fear won’t come in!
