Anyone who has travelled by plane can probably guess what I mean when I say travel light. Sometimes, when we travel, we tend to carry along far more baggage than is needed. To our regret, not only are the extra bags difficult to manage, but in some cases you may be charged for them or they may even get lost. In other words, too much baggage can become a burden. As Christians, we often face similar situations by overloading ourselves with the cares and affairs of life. We take on far more than we can handle, and often find ourselves stressed, worried, concerned, and sometimes even sick. When that happens, we can begin to feel hopeless and alone—that God has abandoned us. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Instead of trying to carry the weight of our worries and concerns on our shoulders, we can choose to do what the Bible says and cast “the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully” (1Peter 5:7, Amplified Bible, Classic Edition). God doesn’t want you burdened and weighed down with worries and concerns. In fact, 1 Corinthians 10:13, The Message, tells us that “No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he’ll never let you be pushed past your limit; he’ll always be there to help you come through it.” God knows all about your heavy load, and He’s willing to carry your baggage. Just give it to Him, and trust Him to handle it. Give all the care of your baggage to Him, so you can travel light!
