There’s a lot of noise out there. No, I’m not talking about laughing children at playgrounds and parks. I’m not referring to car horns blaring in heavy traffic or the roar of crowds inside sports stadiums. I’m talking about distractions—those things that keep cropping up that take your mind off God and His Word, and eventually cause you to lose focus and get off track of fulfilling His purpose for your life. Many times, those distractions come in the form of voices—different people speaking into your life and giving you advice. Most of the time, what they’re saying is not what God intends for you to hear. But because you trust them, you want to believe what they’re saying is right because it’s really what you want to hear. That’s the way the devil works. He listens to your conversations, hears you speak your desires, and then dangles them in front of you as though he is able to give them to you. That’s how he tried to trap Jesus—by using enticing words. He said, “I will give you….” But Jesus was wise. He understood His purpose for being here on the earth, and knew that only His Father in heaven could provide the things He needed. Each time Satan tried to entice Him, Jesus responded by saying, “It is written…!” You’re hearing a lot of voices these days. Some are telling you to go for it, to shoot for the stars, while others are saying you’re not going to make it—that you will never amount to anything. First John 4:1-3, New International Version, says, “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world…Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God.” Your responsibility is to not jump at every word someone speaks to you, but to make sure what they’re saying lines up with God’s Word. That’s how you block out distractions. Psalm 119:15 says, “I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways” (English Standard Version). God already has every provision ready for you to fulfill your destiny. It’s His plan and purpose, and only He can bring it to pass for you. Tune out the noise, so you can clearly hear Him when He speaks!
