That may be the title of a popular song from the early 90’s, but I’m raising the question here, on Valentine’s Day, because I want you to take a moment and really consider what true love is all about. Many base their thoughts about love on feelings and emotions—how they respond to the way others treat them. The truth is real love began with our loving heavenly Father, who the Bible says loved us so much that He gave His only Son to pay for our sins. Why did He do it? “So that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life” (John 3:16, The Message). God’s unconditional love caused Him to give the life of His Son, Jesus, for us. He didn’t do for one and ignore the other. He loved all mankind—unconditionally! That’s the kind of love that God, who is Love, desires for us, His children, to have. He has given us His Son, and now He desires that we love others so much that we are willing to share Jesus with them by the message of salvation through Him wherever we go and with whomever God puts in our path. Celebrate those you love on this Valentines’ Day. And while you do, take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to help you share God’s love with others. What’s love got to do with it? EVERYTHING!
