The Bible says in 1 John 4:19 that, as believers, we should love God “because He first loved us.” I’m sure you would agree that is a good reason to love God. But there’s an even better reason for loving Him in Matthew 22:37-38, New Living Translation, which says, “You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.” Showing love is not an option. It’s a commandment from God! Further, verse 39 tells us: “A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” It’s clear that God wants us to love. But it’s also clear in 1 John 4:16 that loving like God wants us to love has spiritual rewards. That verse says, “God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.” What more could we ask than to know God lives in us, and that because He is love, we, too, are love? That should make it easy to share God’s love with others.
