Are there giants in your life? Before you answer, consider what a giant is. A giant is anything that presents itself to be bigger than you and something you don’t feel you can conquer. It’s a person or thing of unusually great size, power, or importance. Based on that definition, we can all answer yes. As believers, each day we face one or more giants of some kind that have but one purpose: to harass, intimidate and stop us. Their goal is to rob us of our faith—to cause us to begin to doubt God and give up on life, believing that we’re going to fail and never amount to anything. Well, let me just encourage you today that whatever giants you may be facing—whether sickness, fear of losing a job, or even financial difficulty—your giants will fall down! That’s not a maybe, that’s a fact based on God’s Word. When David went up against Goliath, who some say was about nine feet tall, he spoke with bold confidence when he said in 1 Samuel 17:37, New Living Translation, “The Lord who rescued me from the claws of the lion and the bear will rescue me from this Philistine.” In the life of the Christian, another word for giants is distractions. The devil uses them all the time, hoping to eventually cause us to fall away from our faith and trust in God. But just as the Lord said to his servant in Joshua 1:9, he says to us today, “This is my command-be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (New Living Translation). When you come against any giant, it’s important to remember that God is with you. If God is with you and for you, no giant can defeat you. Just as He helped David to slay the giant Goliath, He will show you how and help you bring your giants down.
